A guide to Sub-Zero Built In American Fridge Freezers

Sub-Zero built-in American fridge freezers fit into your kitchen cabinetry rather than standing alone. You get the space of an American-style fridge freezer with a fitted look. Every model here is finished in stainless steel and comes from one of two series, Classic and Professional. They suit larger kitchens where a full-height fridge freezer is planned into the design from the start. Classic models are no frost with automatic defrosting, so you won't need to defrost them by hand.

Start with the width. Classic models come in 914 mm, 1067 mm and 1219 mm widths, in two layouts. French door models keep the fridge at eye level with the freezer below, which suits households that mostly use fresh food. Fridge space goes up to 577 litres. Side-by-side models put a full-height fridge and freezer next to each other. At 1067 mm, side-by-side gives noticeably more freezer space than the French door version. The Professional series is 1219 mm wide with a French door design, 566 litres of fridge space and 363 litres in the freezer. It adds Sabbath mode and an audible door-open alarm, and a glass-door version is also available.

Ice and water are the next choice. Many models are plumbed in and have an ice maker. Internal dispensers sit inside the fridge, so the door front stays clean. An external dispenser on the door lets you get water without opening it. Some 1219 mm side-by-side models make ice but have no dispenser. Any plumbed-in model needs a water supply near the housing. Most Classic models come in two versions, one with Pro handles and one with tubular handles, so you can match the rest of your kitchen. Energy ratings vary too: the 914 mm French door model is rated A+ with a 30 dB noise level, while the larger models are rated E and 35 dB.

To narrow it down, measure the opening, then decide between more freezer space (side-by-side) and a larger eye-level fridge (French door). Next, pick the dispenser type you want, and finally the handle style. Every model on this page also appears in Sub-Zero American fridge freezers.
