Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
RDO recycle appliances in accordance with the WEEE directive. Should you wish to recycle your old like-for-like appliance, simply select the “Recycle” option which is available in your online basket. Please note, RDO only charge for the cost of transporting the item to be recycled.
All electrical appliances RDO sell are able to be recycled. To confirm that your appliance is suitable for recycling, simply check your appliance for the ‘WEEE symbol’ (see image).
If you can’t find this symbol on your old appliance, don’t worry, RDO will still remove and dispose of your old appliance in the most eco-friendly manner available.
Large household appliances (e.g. ovens, fridges, washing machines) currently make up over 40% of WEEE. Failure to responsibly recycle these unwanted electrical appliances (e-waste) produces toxic by-products which can have very damaging effects on wildlife and human health alike.
Quite often, electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and reducing the unnecessary risks associated with sending waste electrical goods to landfill.
RDO strictly adheres to the 2013 Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Regulations.
If you’d like to recycle your electrical and electronic devices yourself, you can do so for free at your local recycling centre. To find your nearest centre, please visit the Recycle More website.
Treating Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Treatment of WEEE varies depending on its category and the technology available. However, the process mostly entails shredding or dismantling equipment.
