A downdraft extractor works to the same principles as a conventional kitchen hood, but is housed below a work surface - so it is out of sight when not in use. When you do need to use it, the downdraft extractor can be electronically raised up from its housing and once powered on will start capturing steam and smells accumulated from your cooking.
